I keep all my receipts, but I never write down exactly what I do. I'm curious, how does OPPO keep track of their maintenance/repairs? Spreadsheets, physical logs, not at all?

I keep my receipts, but I haven't got around to making a file for either of my cars yet. I want to get in the habit of writing the mileage down on the receipts too.

I write important stuff on the inside of the (white) hood - just a date and x for oil/etc, date, who, and price for tires and repairs - use a sharpie....

Minor stuff like oil changes I don't really keep track of but anything major like a timing belt change or a new battery gets written under the hood (along with date & mileage) with a paint marker. Additionally, any work that I can't do myself is done by my parent's garage, so an RO gets written up and filed away in my own folder at the garage.

I don't tend to keep purchase reciepts but I probably should.

I have a notebook that I make an entry in whenever I fill up the car (how many gallons and what the fuel cost), when I (or a shop) do any work (what was done and how much it cost), when I buy something for it (part name and cost), and if I enter it in a show.

An Excel spreadsheet of anything that ever gets done to the car, when, where, what, mileage, parts, costs. Plus a big folder of receipts, parts orders, etc.

I have an app on my phone called "Driver Diary" that syncs between my phone, tablet, and dropbox. That, and a moleskine in the glovebox that gets a copy as well. That's only for my MR2 though, the wifes Vibe doesn't get that treatment. If I ever sell the car, the log would make the next owner pretty happy though. That just gas and remarks though, all receipts and documents get a 3" 3 ring binder (yes, I'm OCD about this shit).

I'm an information junkie. I keep all my receipts, but since I do almost all of the work myself, I also have a spreadsheet where I record the details – date, mileage, what was done, the parts vendor (or the garage that I went to), and how much it cost. Anything that I might want to refer to later (compression tests, measurements, modifications, etc.), I write down and keep with my receipts, with a note in the spreadsheet that refers to them.

When I bought the Volvo, I went a step further, and entered all the receipts that came with the car into a similar spreadsheet. It makes for a handy index into the hefty wad of receipts, and putting everything in one place makes it easy to pick up on patterns. I suspect that it verges on the excessive side, but I like having all the documentation on hand, and having it all organised when it comes time to sell definitely helps give the impression that there's nothing being hidden.

Spread sheet. I only keep receipts for repairs, maintenance I just log.

I do, now, take pictures of the parts / fluids and since they auto save to Google photos it's really easy to link them to the doc. I started doing it so I'd have a before picture so I'd remember where fasteners or whatever went incase I ended up with an extra after...now I do it for pretty much anything.

Spreadsheet for details. Date/mileage/repair. I have a single file with a tab for each vehicle.

That joke comes up literally EVERY time I mention that damn thing. I hate that car too which makes it worse, thank god we are selling it soon.

Also, moleskine notebooks are crazy expensive for what they are, and even so I just covered it in road trip and race track stickers.

I generally sell cars before I ever have a chance to do maintenance on them. Besides that, I look through my bank statement and try to remember what the hell I bought from RockAuto for $62.11. Was that the master cylinder? No, I got that at Pep Boys. Maybe spark plugs? Who the hell even knows.

All of the car's maintenance is done by the dealer, so I simply fold up the shop order and put it in the book with the service/owner manuals.

I don't record consumables because it didn't matter and I don't have the time.

A google sheet called "Things owning me." And a separate tab for each mechanical thing I have to maintain. I keep serial numbers / VINs at the top, and write down part numbers when I replace parts, tracking cost, date, mileage/hours. I also keep physical folders on bigger items like the boat and the cars. My 1972 ford pickup folder is about 4 pages. My 2001 BMW was about an inch and a half thick from the previous owner, before I touched it. haha

I'll document the insanity one day, hell it's raining and I've got a half decent lighting setup kicking around, I might try my hand at it today.
